Although a traditional employment contract is not signed with students, student work still involves certain elements of employment that must be respected.
You can discuss with the student already during the interview, but no later than before starting work, the following:
- payment for work (the hourly rate and when they can expect payment),
- training for the job (which must be paid),
- duration of the work,
- expected arrival and departure times,
- requirements, additional conditions, internal rules,
- how incentive-based work or inventory shortages are handled,
- unwritten rules that need to be followed (lunch, breaks, phones, etc.),
- how to record hours worked (using a card, manual entry, etc.),
- if you have posted a job, notify candidates who were not selected (you can easily send them a message via the online business portal),
- if you no longer need the student, inform them in a professional and timely manner.
Work through a referral can be performed by citizens of the Republic of Slovenia as well as international students studying in Slovenia under the following conditions:

2. Secondary school students: Full-time secondary school students who have student status in Slovenia or abroad and have turned 15.
3. Adult learners (part-time secondary school students): Students under the age of 26 enrolled in publicly recognized programs for primary, vocational, secondary, or professional education.
4. University students: Full-time and part-time students.
- Exchange Programs: Participate in short-term internships or academic exchanges.

In case of disagreements, you can contact e-Student Service for advice.
We will act as a mediator between you and the student.
In our experience, the vast majority of issues are quickly and successfully resolved with the involvement of the student service.
- A high school or university student can attach the "My Experience" document when applying for a job.
- The document continuously tracks the knowledge and skills that the student has gained through work via e-Student Service.
- The document lists competencies based on the type of work recorded on the referral.
- If you wish to verify the authenticity of the recorded experience, please contact us at: [email protected].
At e-Student Service, high school and university students can record their working hours directly in their profile at www.studentski-servis.com.
🕒 How to record hours: They enter the start and end times and mark their lunch break.
📅 Review of hours: They can review their entries by month and export the hours to Excel, which can be sent to their employer.
